Scalable Vector Graphics images are a type of two dimensional image described in XML. A vector based image means that all of the components of the image are described so that the image can be displayed at any size. Instead of containing all of the pixels to make up a circle, for instance, an SVG image would simple state that there is a circle of X color. This allows for more portable images that generally take up less space, at the expense of detail.
